DATES:
1st January to 30th June, 2007 (May/ June pre winter storms for fast & faster speeds!!!), each round finishes last day of the month.

LOCATION:
Anywhere in New Zealand coastal waters.

ENTRY:
Free & Open to all SpeedSurfers/ Windsurfers in N.Z, any age or skill level most welcome.

GPS:
GPS handheld units for this challenge are very affordable & easily obtainable ....see “TradeMe” for new GPS’s.

2007 KA New Zealand Speed Challenge weekly progress will be posted on this page.....also note N.Z speedsurfing results from previous years will be posted on this site soon.

RULES:
• You must be registered with www.gps-speedsurfing.com/registration...... creating a login space on this site is free & straightforward. Donations are optional of any amount to gps-speedsurfing.com www.gps-speedsurfing.com/donations.
• If unsure how to configure & setup your GPS & software…there is plenty of info on www.gps-speedsurfing.com/faq & there’s plenty of other GPS SpeedSurfers around New Zealand that will help you out.
• All GPS sessions are to be submitted to your GPS session space at www.gps-speedsurfing.com where the organisers of the "2007 KA New Zealand Speed Challenge" will automatically receive all GPS sessions that have taken place in New Zealand.
• GPS results format will be as per www.gps-speedsurfing.com/rules or better....no inferior GPS measurements will be permitted.
• The New Zealand regional time keeper (RTK) may ask for your GPS recorded tracks at any time, always save & keep a copy of your original tracks as recorded by your GPS! All speed claims will have to be accepted by the N.Z RTK & the event organizers.

SAFETY:
On entering this event you accept that your safety is your responsibility!
SpeedSurfing is a potentially dangerous sport, wearing a helmet is recommended at all times.
Always sail with others especially in extreme conditions.
Avoid Collisions, generally it is accepted that those on a SPEEDRUN sailing downwind next to a sandbar have the right of way in other Windsurfing situations sailing rules apply.

RANKING:
1. Best average (5 best 10 second runs), and in case of a tie
2. Best ten second run, up until the 5th run, and then
3. Best 2 second run, up until the 5th 2 second run

Overall Results
(i) Fastest Nautical mile.
(ii) Fastest 500m (average of 2 runs)
(iii) Best of 4 rounds over 6 rounds, Series winner will be determined from the sum of points from each round with points awarded as follows for each round
1st place = 0.7 pts,
2nd place = 2 pts,
3rd place = 3 pts.
At the end of the "2007 KA New Zealand Speed Challenge" the competitor with the lowest total point score wins.
Discards

• No discard with four rounds.
• 1 Discard for five rounds.
• 2 Discards for six rounds.
When points are equal after all rounds
1. Best rounds result after discard
2. Best average speed in any of the 4 rounds
3. Best ten second run, up till the 5th run

(As the GPS Speed Racing format is rather new, better methods may be adapted during the challenge.)
